My Tokays

I have had Curnilla since the Fall of 1994.  She was full grown when I aquired her, so I am unsure of her age.  She is a healthy, strong Tokay.  She appears rounder and fuller than her mate, Kurnile.  He has been with us since the Spring of 1995.

Curnilla laid her first clutch of eggs during the Spring of 1999.  Hatchlings did not result from her first clutch of eggs.

During the Summer of 1999, Curnilla laid many clutches of eggs.  2 hatchlings survived, the others either escaped or were eaten by the parent Tokays.  The 2 alive hatchlings were traded at a pet store for a sexually mature female for mating purposes.

Curnilla is currently laying clutches of  eggs.  It seems as if she starts laying eggs in late spring and continues laying eggs through the end of Summer.  Around July 31, 2000 one of her Spring eggs hatched and the hatchling is now securely protected from the adult Tokays in a plastic cage.  6 more eggs await hatching.

Curnilla has chased Kurnile and the other female Tokay from the enclosure.  Kurnile and the other female Tokay roam my home, eating bugs and calling out to each other.  Although this arrangement works for now with the hot weather and abundant bugs, come winter Kurnile and the newly acquired female will both be placed back into the enclosure.
